Our National Commander is right — Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs depend on The
American Legion. That's because:

  • We are the voice of the veteran.•We are the conscience of a nation that honors military service and
    patriotic values.

  • Without us, government would not know how to effectively fulfill its mission to support and honor our
nation's veterans, members of the Armed Forces, and families and communities across this land.

That is why it's important for you to renew your membership for our Post through 2018 now.

SAVE A LIFE!  AMERICAN LEGION POST 233 BLOOD DRIVE

As a participant in The American Legion Blood Donor Program, Post 233 has an ongoing Center Drive set
up through BloodSource. Post 233 and American Legion Family members, families, and friends who are
able to give blood are encouraged to participate throughout the year.

Donating blood is safe, easy, and takes about an hour. Further information regarding donor eligibility
requirements, BloodSource Donor Center locations, and scheduling appointments is found at www.
bloodsource.org.

We will work together to give back to the community in a truly life changing way. Each pint of blood
collected can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. What a great way to pay
it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country.

Please consider making a donation TODAY. The local Donor Center is located at 9267 Laguna Springs
Drive, Suite 100, Elk Grove; however, blood donations towards Post 233’s Center Drive may be given at
any BloodSource Donor Center. Prior to your donation, it is important to inform BloodSource personnel to
credit the blood donation towards the American Legion Post 233 (Elk Grove): Group
No. 0352.

With your help, we can have a lifesaving impact in our community.

If you have questions, please contact Maryanna Ricker, Chair Blood Drive Committee.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA 2017

Wreath Program & Wreath Placement - Saturday, December 16 at 9am:  Please join us to start the
holiday off right, by honoring our veterans and their families at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
This is a family event and all are welcome to participate.  There will be a short program to include music by
Travis AFB Brass - Band of the Golden West and words from local speakers.  Once the program is
completed all are invited to help decorate all the over 30,000 gravesites with wreaths.  Please support the
groups the fundraise throughout the year for this event:  Wreaths Across America & Remember-A-Vet.
These groups work hard to make sure that SVNC is one of the few National Cemeteries in the nation that
has 100% coverage of all gravesites with a wreath.

Dress warm and for changing weather conditions. Plan to come early and stay at least an hour or so.

Cleanup Day - Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 8am. Please come to help with the cleanup.  We need
everyone to come out and help.  Bring a long handled stick/broom to help too.

SACRED TRUST: NATIONAL CEMETERY

Burial in a VA national cemetery is open to all members of the armed forces and Veterans who have met
minimum active duty service requirements, as applicable, and were discharged under conditions other
than dishonorable.  Members of the reserve components of the armed forces who die while on active duty
or who die while on training duty under certain circumstances are also eligible for burial, as are service
members who were eligible for retired pay at the time of their death.

A veteran's spouse, widow or widower, minor children, and, under certain conditions, unmarried adult
children with disabilities, may also be eligible for burial.  Eligible spouses and children may be buried even
